DIAMER, August 30, 2025 — In a tragic incident, two Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts personnel were martyred and another was injured when terrorists opened fire on a security checkpoint along the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in Diamer district late Friday night, police officials confirmed.

Details of the Attack
- The attack took place at 12:15 am near Chilas, when unknown armed men ambushed the checkpoint from an elevated hilltop.
- Out of nine personnel stationed at the post, three were injured in the firing.
- Naib Subedar Khush Dad and Havaldar Ashraf succumbed to their injuries, while Lance Naik Sajid Ali sustained abdominal wounds and is under treatment at RHQ Hospital, Chilas.
- Police recovered two grenades and 10 spent shells from the site. At least 17 bullet holes were found on the checkpoint structure.
Security Response
- Police teams, led by senior officers, reached the site within 20 minutes.
- Elite Force units and additional police were deployed to strengthen the post and launch a search operation.
- The attackers managed to flee, and raids are underway to apprehend them.
- So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the assault.
Official Statements
- GB Interior Minister Shamsul Haq Lone condemned the cowardly attack, vowing that terrorists would be pursued and eliminated.
“Those who attempt to sabotage peace in Gilgit-Baltistan are enemies of the country and the nation,” he said.
- Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan also took strict notice of the incident and directed law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice.
- GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq termed the attack “an attack on the entire Gilgit-Baltistan” and assured that security forces would deal with the terrorists with an “iron hand.”
