Islamabad, August 26, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that the eighth spell of the monsoon season has begun and will continue for several days, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across the country. Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are driving this latest wave.

- Punjab Rivers Under Threat:
- River Chenab at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad expected to reach exceptionally high flood levels.
- River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala likely to rise to Very High Flood within 48 hours due to additional water releases from India.
- Urban Flooding:
- Low-lying areas in Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Faisalabad at risk.
- Power outages, traffic disruptions, and property damage expected.
- Flash Floods and Landslides:
- High danger in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, and upper eastern river catchments.
- Risk of landslides blocking roads and delaying rescue efforts.
- Damage to Agriculture and Infrastructure:

- Humanitarian Concerns:
- Monsoon death toll has already surpassed 700 since late June.
