New Delhi – On August 11, 2025, Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi and several other Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposition INDIA bloc during a protest march from Parliament House to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters.

The demonstration was aimed at opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which the INDIA bloc alleges is part of a wider pattern of electoral malpractice and “vote theft.” Opposition leaders claim the revision could disenfranchise large numbers of voters ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

Police stopped the march with barricades, declaring it unauthorized. Some MPs attempted to climb the barricades, while others, including Gandhi, staged a sit-in before being detained and taken away in police buses.

Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, described the protest as a fight to protect the Constitution and uphold the principle of “one man, one vote.” He called for a “clean, pure voter list” to safeguard democratic integrity.

The incident marks another flashpoint in the ongoing standoff between the opposition and the ECI. The ECI has previously issued a notice to Gandhi, asking him to submit evidence supporting his claims of voter fraud.
