World Bank Approves $47.9 Million Education Grant for Punjab

On August 25, 2025, the World Bank announced the approval of a $47.9 million grant for a new education project in Punjab. The grant is funded by the Global Partnership for Education Fund.

Project Title: Getting Results: Access and Delivery of Quality Education Services and System Transformation in Punjab Project.

Key Objectives

  • Expand early childhood education.
  • Re-enroll out-of-school children.
  • Strengthen teacher support systems.
  • Improve education sector resilience to climate change and emergencies.

Beneficiaries

  • Over 4 million children in Punjab.
    • 80,000 out-of-school children.
    • 3 million+ in government schools.
    • 850,000 in non-formal education.
    • 140,000 children with disabilities in special education.

Teacher & Community Support

  • Training and professional development for 100,000+ teachers, school leaders, and parents.
  • Awareness campaigns to improve community involvement.

Reform Alignment

  • The World Bank emphasized that the project supports Punjab’s education reform agenda aimed at building a more effective, inclusive, and accountable education system.
  • The grant is seen as a step toward tackling “learning poverty” and ensuring equal access for vulnerable groups.
