KARACHI: The first spell of winter rain lashed parts of Karachi late on Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday morning, bringing a noticeable drop in temperature and relief from dry weather conditions.
Light to moderate rainfall was reported from several areas of the city, including the Old City area, Lyari, Keamari, Mauripur, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Clifton, Saddar, North Nazimabad, Malir, Mehmoodabad and Akhtar Colony. Residents in many localities reported intermittent showers, while some areas experienced steady rainfall for short durations.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has not yet released official data on the amount of rainfall recorded. However, weather officials said that showers were observed across most parts of the metropolis, indicating a widespread weather system affecting the city.
The rainfall led to a drop in temperatures, with cooler conditions prevailing across Karachi by early morning. While the rain brought a sense of winter to the coastal city, no major incidents related to water accumulation or traffic disruption were reported immediately.

Earlier, the PMD had forecast rain and thunderstorms in many parts of the country during the week. According to the forecast issued on Sunday, the weather system was expected to bring rain to the plains and snowfall to the hilly areas of northern Pakistan.
For Sindh, the department had predicted isolated light rain or drizzle in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Thatta and Badin, as well as adjoining areas, on December 30. The rainfall experienced in Karachi on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning appeared to be in line with the forecast.
