A major rescue operation is currently underway in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountains to locate and save Laura Dahlmeier, a renowned German biathlete and double Olympic gold medalist, who was seriously injured in a rockfall on Laila Peak.

The Incident:
- The accident occurred around midday on Monday, July 28, at an altitude of 5,700 meters (18,700 feet).
- Dahlmeier, 31, was struck by falling rocks while climbing. Her partner, Marina Eva, managed to raise the alarm and safely descend to base camp.
- Aerial reconnaissance on Tuesday revealed “serious injuries” but rescuers reported no clear signs of life, raising fears about her condition.

Rescue Efforts:
- Helicopters from Pakistan Army Aviation conducted flyovers but could not land due to bad weather, strong winds, and difficult terrain.
- A four-member ground rescue team, including three Americans and one German climber, began their ascent today.
- Local high-altitude porters and experienced mountaineers are also involved in the mission.

- Rescue teams face adverse weather and limited time. Officials say Dahlmeier still has oxygen supplies, and “injured climbers have survived for days” in similar conditions.
