Pakistanis across the country are marking the 78th Independence Day with immense patriotic fervor, a celebration intensified by the nation’s recent military victory in the “Marka-e-Haq” conflict with India. The triumph has infused the day’s events with a renewed sense of unity, pride, and determination.
Official Ceremonies Across the Country
The day began with traditional 31-gun salutes in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals. The national flag was hoisted at government buildings, schools, and private institutions, while iconic sites in Karachi and Lahore hosted change-of-guard ceremonies at the mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal, respectively.

Showcasing Military Strength
Reflecting the military’s central role in Marka-e-Haq, celebrations in Islamabad featured a grand defense exhibition at Shakarparian Parade Ground. Open to the public, the showcase includes tanks, armored vehicles, fighter aircraft, and other weaponry used in the conflict. Visitors also witnessed a Pakistan Air Force fly-past, complete with formation maneuvers, and para-jumping demonstrations by the Special Services Group (SSG).

Nationwide Festivities and Decorations
From Karachi to Gilgit, streets, markets, and public squares are draped in green and white flags, buntings, and lights. Vendors are selling patriotic merchandise, from caps and shirts to miniature flags. In mosques, special prayers were offered for national security, progress, and prosperity.
Cultural and Community Celebrations
Communities nationwide have organized a wide range of events to honor the occasion. Bahria Town Karachi hosted folk dances, live performances of patriotic songs, and a special dancing fountain show. In Islamabad, Lok Virsa’s “Marka-e-Haq Azadi Festival” drew large crowds over its three days, featuring artisan stalls, cultural exhibitions, and concerts celebrating Pakistan’s heritage and resilience.
Messages of Unity from the Leadership
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif used the occasion to reiterate his call for national cohesion, urging political parties to join the “Misaq-e-Istehkam-e-Pakistan” (Charter for Stability of Pakistan) to ensure long-term stability. President Asif Ali Zardari praised the nation’s resolve, stating that Pakistan had “reaffirmed its strength, unity, and determination in the face of external aggression.”
