LAHORE — August 28, 2025 — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally visited Shahdara to oversee the government’s flood response as rising waters in the Ravi River continue to threaten surrounding communities.
On-Ground Inspection
- Maryam Nawaz, accompanied by Rescue 1122 teams, boarded a rescue boat to inspect water levels and check the integrity of embankments near the Shahdara Bridge.
- She was briefed by the Lahore Deputy Commissioner and other officials on the evolving flood situation and ongoing relief operations.

Directives for Emergency Response
- In a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister ordered the immediate evacuation of residents and livestock from all riverine areas.
- She directed full mobilization of resources, including boats, life jackets, and medical teams, to strengthen rescue efforts.
- Emergency protocols were activated in all provincial hospitals to prepare for a possible influx of flood victims.
Army Called In for Assistance
- Maryam Nawaz formally requested the Pakistan Army’s deployment in several districts, including Lahore, to support the civil administration in managing the crisis.
- She praised rescue workers and district officials for their swift response, particularly the safe evacuation of families in Shakargarh.
Public Appeal
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister stressed that although floods are a natural disaster, the Punjab government will ensure the protection of citizens at all costs.
