Washington/Tampa – Field Marshal Asim Munir concluded a series of high-profile engagements in the United States this week, focusing on military-to-military cooperation and strategic dialogue.

A central moment of the visit was his presence at the retirement ceremony of outgoing U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General Michael E. Kurilla in Tampa, Florida. Munir also attended the change of command ceremony, meeting with the newly appointed CENTCOM commander, Admiral Brad Cooper.

In Washington, Munir held talks with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, on areas of mutual professional interest. During the meeting, Munir extended a formal invitation for General Caine to visit Pakistan. On the sidelines, he also interacted with defense chiefs from several friendly nations, reinforcing Pakistan’s diplomatic and defense outreach.

This trip was Munir’s second U.S. visit in recent months. His previous visit in June included a rare private luncheon with then-President Donald Trump at the White House—an unprecedented engagement for a serving Pakistani military chief. That meeting resulted in announcements of expanded U.S.-Pakistan cooperation, including discussions on a potential oil deal.

Observers note that Munir’s latest trip underscores Pakistan’s intent to deepen defense relations with Washington while maintaining strategic partnerships with multiple global players.
