PESHAWAR — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly session on Monday, February 2, 2026, was marked by sharp criticism from treasury benches regarding the “secret” transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital and Pakistan’s recent entry into a US-led peace initiative for Gaza.
The session, chaired by MPA Mohammad Israr, highlighted a deepening divide between the provincial and federal governments over issues of security, health, and foreign policy.
The “Secret” Surgery: PTI Concerns
Lawmakers expressed outrage over the transfer of the 74-year-old former prime minister from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on the night of January 24.
- Lack of Transparency: Housing Minister Amjad Ali and others questioned why the move was conducted “in the dark” without informing Khan’s family or personal physicians.
- The Procedure: While the federal government described it as a minor, 20-minute procedure for Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, PTI members alleged “bad faith” and a violation of visitation rights.
- Security Threats: Minister Ali also claimed he faced intimidation, alleging a hand grenade was hurled at his home following his previous assembly speech.

The “Board of Peace” Controversy
The assembly saw a heated debate over Pakistan’s decision to join the US-led Board of Peace for Gaza, a charter signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on January 23 at the request of US President Donald Trump.
- Hamas Disarmament: Lawmakers alleged that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the board’s aim is to disarm Hamas.
- National Sovereignty: Treasury members, including Abdul Salam Afridi, criticized the move, arguing that Pakistan joined while countries like France, Germany, and Spain remained hesitant. They claimed the accord does not represent the “will of the Pakistani nation” regarding the Palestinian cause.
Security Failure in Balochistan
The house condemned the recent wave of coordinated attacks by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which analysts described as the deadliest in decades.
- Massive Casualties: Reports from early February indicate over 120 people died in suicide and gun attacks across the province, with security forces killing nearly 100 militants in retaliation.
- Accountability: Lawmakers criticized the security lapse that allowed militants to attack 12 different sites and reportedly take the Deputy Commissioner of Nushki hostage.

Legislative Business & Adjournment
Despite the political friction, the house conducted routine legislative business:
- Passed Bill: The KP Right to Public Services (Amendment) Bill, 2026, was passed to streamline government service delivery.
- Adjournment: The chair adjourned the session until February 16, 2026.
The KP government is preparing to present a formal resolution against the Gaza Peace Board in the next session.
