Islamabad, November 27, 2025 – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a strong demand for an immediate official statement from the government to dispel “despicable” rumours circulating about the health and whereabouts of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.
Unverified claims, including reports of the former prime minister’s death, have spread rapidly on the social media platform X, fuelled by Afghan and Indian media outlets and foreign accounts. The hashtag “Where is Imran Khan?” trended across Pakistan on Thursday morning, reflecting growing public anxiety.
Imran Khan’s family and lawyers have been repeatedly barred from meeting him in recent weeks, prompting protests outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The prolonged denial of access has intensified fears about the 73-year-old leader’s condition.
In an early Thursday statement posted on X, PTI declared:
“The current government and interior ministry must immediately and clearly dismiss these rumours and arrange a meeting between Imran Khan and his family.”
The party further demanded a formal state announcement confirming Khan’s health, security, and current status, alongside an investigation into those spreading “sensitive” misinformation.
PTI emphasised that the government bears full responsibility for the former premier’s safety, human rights, and constitutional protections, vowing to pursue “every legal and political step” until the truth emerges.
Meher Bano Qureshi, daughter of jailed PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, wrote on X:
“The best way to end these rumours is to allow Khan sahib’s sisters, lawyers, and party members to meet him.”

On Wednesday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif countered criticism by claiming Imran Khan has a television, outside food, exercise equipment, a double bed, and velvet bedding in Adiala Jail – facilities Asif contrasted with his own past imprisonment experience.

Imran Khan has remained in Adiala Jail since August 2023, serving sentences in the £190 million corruption case while facing separate trials linked to the May 9, 2023, protests.
As speculation mounts, pressure is building on authorities to provide conclusive proof of the life and well-being of the imprisoned opposition leader.
