Ali Amin Gandapur Resigns as KP Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi Named Successor

Peshawar, October 9, 2025 — In a major political development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has formally resigned from his post. According to sources, Gandapur signed his resignation and submitted it to the Governor of KP earlier today.

Confirming his departure, Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the province was grappling with severe economic and law and order challenges upon assuming office. “With the confidence of the party leadership, we managed to stabilize the economic situation within a year and a half,” he said, expressing gratitude to both cabinet and opposition members for their sincere efforts.

Rumors of his removal had been circulating earlier in the day, suggesting internal divisions within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Later, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed the leadership change outside Adiala Jail, naming Sohail Afridi as the party’s new nominee for the Chief Minister’s post.

Raja revealed that Gandapur had leveled serious allegations against party member Aleema Khan, accusing her of sowing discord within PTI ranks, which reportedly prompted the leadership shift.

In a parting statement, Ali Amin Gandapur said his resignation came at the directive of PTI founder Imran Khan and pledged full support to Sohail Afridi. He also vowed to continue working for Khan’s release and the party’s broader political objectives.
