Haris Rauf Suspended for Two ODIs Over ICC Code of Conduct Violations

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been suspended for the first two One Day Internationals (ODIs) against South Africa, scheduled for November 4 and 6, following breaches of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup.

The ICC announced the decision on Tuesday after completing several disciplinary hearings related to incidents during the high-profile Pakistan-India encounters on September 14, 21, and 28.

According to an ICC statement, Rauf was found guilty of conduct “that brings the game into disrepute” under Article 2.21 of the Code. The pacer received two demerit points and was fined 30 per cent of his match fee for gestures made towards Indian spectators during the September 14 Super Four match. His actions included signalling “6-0” with his hands and mimicking a plane being shot down — an apparent reference to recent military tensions between the two countries.

Rauf’s teammate Sahibzada Farhan was also reprimanded for breaching the same article after celebrating his half-century with a gunshot gesture. India’s Suryakumar Yadav faced similar sanctions, including a 30 per cent fine and two demerit points, for dedicating his team’s victory to the “families of victims” of the Pahalgam attack — remarks the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had formally protested.

The ICC confirmed that Rauf’s total of four demerit points within a 24-month period triggered an automatic two-match suspension under its disciplinary framework. The hearings were overseen by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson.

The suspension is a setback for Pakistan ahead of their home series against South Africa, as Rauf remains a key figure in the national bowling lineup.
