ISLAMABAD, October 16, 2025– Pakistan and Egypt have pledged to strengthen cooperation in the maritime and industrial sectors, with a focus on unlocking the potential of their blue economies to drive sustainable growth and regional trade.

The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Egypt’s Ambassador Dr Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan.

The two sides held detailed discussions on advancing bilateral collaboration in key areas such as port development, shipping, logistics, and industrial ventures. They underscored the strategic value of maritime connectivity and the need to align national policies to promote investment and joint ventures.

Minister Chaudhry highlighted Pakistan’s vision to enhance regional connectivity via an integrated network of roads, railways, and sea routes. He specifically pointed to Egypt’s geographical significance and proposed the establishment of “Pakistan Houses” in Africa, Central Asia, and Egypt to serve as hubs for trade facilitation and investment promotion.

Ambassador Hassan welcomed the initiative and expressed Egypt’s readiness to share its maritime expertise, particularly in managing the Suez Canal’s free zones, a globally recognised model that could be adapted to Pakistan’s ports and logistics sector.

Both parties agreed on forming technical teams to explore actionable frameworks and accelerate cooperation in these sectors. The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to develop its blue economy, which includes sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and ecosystem health.
