ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will host the formal signing ceremony of a historic peace agreement between the United States and Iran. Key Highlights

  • Signing ceremony set for June 19 in Geneva, hosted by Pakistan.
  • The agreement ends a three-month war, halts the US blockade of Iran, and reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Prime Minister credits the success to Pakistan’s intensive mediation and the patience of US and Iranian leadership.
  • Special recognition given to Chief of Defence Forces and COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir for his “unprecedented” role in the peace process.

A Diplomatic Milestone

Addressing the National Assembly on Monday, Prime Minister Sharif described the agreement as a “historic milestone” for global peace. He noted that the deal follows three months and 16 days of tireless efforts to de-escalate tensions and stop military actions on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Pakistan has played a central role in this diplomatic breakthrough, having brokered a fragile ceasefire last month and hosting the initial round of high-stakes negotiations in Islamabad. The Prime Minister lauded the process as a victory for dialogue, highlighting that the agreement demonstrates how complex international disputes can be resolved through patience and persistent engagement.

Recognition of Leadership and Partners

The Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude to key domestic and international figures who supported the peace initiative. He specifically commended the “day and night” efforts of Chief of Defence Forces and COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir, alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Internationally, he thanked the leadership of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and China, as well as the UK and EU states, for their vital cooperation.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also addressed the House, praising the wisdom shown by Pakistan’s leadership and calling the agreement a beacon of hope for resolving other regional conflicts.
