LAHORE — The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) on Thursday restored electricity to four housing projects in Bahria Town Lahore after the management cleared outstanding dues amounting to Rs682 million, ending a day-long disruption that had triggered unrest among residents.
A Lesco spokesperson confirmed the restoration of power, saying the supply had been reconnected to “four Bahria Town projects, including main Bahria Town near Mohlanwal.” The utility had cut off electricity on Wednesday after repeated delays in payment, prompting criticism from residents who had announced plans for a protest demonstration outside the Bahria Town offices following Friday prayers.
According to Lesco Chief Executive Officer Ramzan Butt, the original deadline for payment had been November 21. The housing society requested and received multiple extensions—first to November 23, and later through several additional days—before the final cutoff date was set for November 27.
“But instead of paying bills, they approached the court, reportedly,” Butt told news reporter. “Before they could get the court decision, we disconnected the power supply to four projects, including the main Bahria Town near Mohlanwal that alone has dues of over Rs530 million.”
Following the disconnection, Bahria Town management moved to settle the outstanding amount, allowing Lesco to restore power by Thursday morning.
This is not the first time Bahria Town has faced electricity-related action from Lesco. In 2024, the utility disconnected supply over unpaid bills exceeding Rs762 million, also involving prolonged disputes over payments.

The real estate developer has previously drawn scrutiny for its power management practices in other cities as well. In June last year, residents of Bahria Town Islamabad petitioned against overbilling and deductions related to electricity generated through solar power, alleging unfair practices by the management.

While power has now been restored in Lahore, residents say the episode has highlighted recurring concerns over the society’s handling of utility payments. Some expressed frustration that disruptions caused by administrative disputes repeatedly affect households, despite residents paying their individual dues.
Lesco officials said the utility would continue monitoring bill payments by major housing societies to avoid future disruptions. Meanwhile, Bahria Town has not yet issued an official public statement regarding the latest payment or the circumstances that led to the disconnection.
