Pakistan to Host South Africa for Cricket Series in October: PCB

Sep 7, 2025 | Current Affairs

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday confirmed that South Africa will tour Pakistan from October to November 2025 for a full series of Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. The visit will also mark the start of Pakistan’s new ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Test Matches

  • The first Test will be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from October 12–16, the first five-day fixture at the venue since its renovation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
  • The second Test is scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 20–24.
  • This will be South Africa’s first tour of Pakistan since 2021, when they lost the Test series 2-0.

T20I and ODI Series

  • After the red-ball games, both sides will contest three T20Is from October 28 to November 1 — the opener at Rawalpindi, followed by two matches in Lahore.
  • The tour will conclude with three ODIs at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium from November 4–8.
  • The ODI return to Iqbal Stadium is notable — it will be the first ODI there in 17 years, since Pakistan’s win over Bangladesh in April 2008.

PCB Statement

  • PCB COO Sumair Ahmed Syed welcomed the Proteas’ visit, saying:

“Hosting the World Test Champions will provide quality cricket for our players and fans. The return of ODI cricket to Faisalabad is a proud moment as Iqbal Stadium holds a special place in our cricketing history.”

Current Context

  • Pakistan is currently featuring in a tri-series with Afghanistan and hosts UAE, reaching the finals after defeating the Emirates by 31 runs.
  • The series comes ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 in UAE (Sept 9–28), where Pakistan is expected to face arch-rivals India.
