The standoff at the prison gates occurred alongside the release of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s (HRCP) annual report. The PTI characterized the report as a “charge sheet” against the current administration, citing its findings on suppressed freedom of expression, harassment of journalists, and the mistreatment of political activists. The party emphasized that the report validates their concerns regarding extrajudicial actions and the weakening of the rule of law within the country.
