At least three people, including a school principal and a Rescue 1122 official, were injured on Tuesday in “back-to-back quadcopter attacks” on a private school in Mir Ali, North Waziristan. The incident targeted Al-Fatah Public School in Khasokhel village, where explosives were dropped from a drone onto the school premises, injuring the principal and a security guard. While rescue personnel were attending to the injured, a second quadcopter dropped a mortar shell near the scene, causing injuries to a Rescue 1122 worker. The injured were initially treated on-site and later shifted to Bannu for further care, where their condition was reported as stable.
The attacks triggered panic in the area, forcing nearby residents to rush out of their homes. Local citizens condemned the assaults, describing them as a dangerous attack on education and civilians. Parents and community leaders stressed that such targeting of schools and emergency responders was unacceptable and urged the government to implement effective security measures to protect students, teachers, and rescue workers. Authorities confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway, although no militant group has claimed responsibility so far.

North Waziristan has witnessed a series of similar attacks on educational institutions, particularly girls’ schools. In December 2025, militants blew up a government girls’ school in Mir Ali, which enrolled around 250 students. Another incident in the same month endangered over 600 schoolchildren at a government primary school, highlighting the continuing threat posed by banned militant organizations in the region.
These recent drone attacks demonstrate a growing use of quadcopters and improvised munitions by militants, targeting both educational institutions and emergency service personnel. Local authorities and residents have called for heightened security measures and stricter monitoring to prevent such attacks and ensure the safety of civilians in North Waziristan.
