Pakistan Engages Afghanistan but Stresses Its Right to Act Against Terrorism: DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD – October 11, 2025 — DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, while reaffirming Pakistan’s historical and cultural ties with Afghanistan, made it clear that Islamabad will continue taking all necessary steps to eliminate terrorism, including operations against cross-border threats.

Responding to recent speculation over strikes in Kabul targeting TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud, the DG ISPR neither confirmed nor denied specific actions but stressed that Afghan soil was being used by terrorist groups against Pakistan. “We have engaged the Afghan government repeatedly—bilaterally and through allies—but we will act when our people are under threat,” he asserted.

He termed Pakistan’s demand of “not allowing Afghan territory to be used by non-state actors” as fair and legitimate. “It is not just a threat to us. Every non-state actor—TTP, IS-K, BLA—is active there. This is a global problem,” he said, calling on the international community to recognize the regional implications.

General Chaudhry clarified that Pakistan maintains security cooperation discussions not only with Afghanistan but also with key allies including Saudi Arabia, UAE, China, the US, and Turkiye. However, he cautioned: “Security cannot be outsourced. The responsibility lies first with our own state and institutions.”

He reiterated that weapons abandoned by U.S. forces post-2021 have empowered terrorists and were recovered during recent operations in KP.

Concluding, he warned that Afghanistan must decide whether it will allow itself to become a sanctuary for global terrorism or act responsibly in the region.
