KARACHI: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday lauded the role of Sindh Rangers in restoring peace and stability to Karachi, saying the force had played a decisive part in curbing terrorism, crime and unrest in the country’s largest city.
The interior minister was addressing the passing-out parade of Basic Recruit Training Course No. 33 at the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Training Centre and School. He paid tribute to the professionalism, discipline and commitment of the young soldiers who formally joined the force after completing their training.
Calling the occasion a milestone in the lives of the graduating recruits, Mr Naqvi congratulated the cadets, their families and instructors, and described the Rangers as one of Pakistan’s most respected security forces. He said the organisation had earned a distinguished reputation nationwide due to its consistent performance and professionalism.
Recalling Karachi’s troubled past, the interior minister said the Rangers had “created history” by restoring peace in the metropolis at a time when terrorism, target killings and organised crime had severely affected daily life. He said the force played a central role in dismantling criminal networks and stabilising law and order in the city.
Mr Naqvi noted that the Rangers, working in close coordination with the Sindh police, were also instrumental in operations against criminal elements in the Katcha, or riverine, areas of the province. These efforts, he said, significantly improved the overall security situation and helped re-establish the writ of the state.
Due to the continuous efforts of the Rangers, he added, Karachi had undergone a visible transformation. “Commercial and industrial activities have revived, and the city has once again emerged as an important centre for trade and culture,” he said, attributing the turnaround to sustained security operations and improved coordination among law enforcement agencies.

Highlighting the force’s role beyond internal security, Mr Naqvi referred to Rangers’ participation in operations against Indian aggression in May 2025 at Bunyan al-Marsous. He said the Rangers worked alongside the Pakistan Army on international borders, closely monitoring enemy movements and thwarting hostile intentions through vigilance and preparedness.
The interior minister also paid tribute to the martyrs of Sindh Rangers, acknowledging the sacrifices made by personnel in the line of duty to safeguard Pakistan’s internal and external frontiers. He noted that the Rangers had served beyond provincial boundaries, having been deployed in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad in the past. More recently, two wings of the force were stationed in sensitive areas of Balochistan, where they continue to perform duties under challenging conditions.

Addressing the graduating cadets, Mr Naqvi said the passing-out parade marked the beginning, not the end, of their responsibilities. Expressing confidence in their abilities, he urged them to uphold the trust of the nation through courage, professionalism and dedication, and concluded with prayers for their safety and success.
