ISLAMABAD – The federal cabinet has released fresh Toshakhana records for the first half of 2025, revealing that most public office-holders received small mementos, handicrafts, and traditional items — though some high-value gifts also made the list.

The data covers 137 entries between January and June 2025, with gifts presented to the prime minister, president, ministers, and senior officials during foreign visits and official meetings.

Key Highlights

  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received 61 gifts, the highest among all officials.
    • Included: luxury wristwatches, a Malaysian Golden Kris dagger, a handmade silk carpet from Azerbaijan, and an electric car from Turkiye’s president.
    • In Saudi Arabia, he was given a model of Mimbar-e-Rasool and the Charter of Makkah in English and Arabic.
  • President Asif Ali Zardari received 11 gifts, including:
    • An electric vehicle from Turkiye’s president.
    • A carpet from Iran’s foreign minister.
    • Decorative items such as vases, candle stands, and an onyx set.
  • Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and delegation were gifted a large collection of luxury watches in Saudi Arabia:
    • Six Rolex, five Tudor, three Black Armin, and nine Frank Rosha watches.
  • Deputy PM Ishaq Dar received Afghan carpets and traditional bowls.
  • Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz was presented with prayer mats and Turkish handicrafts.
  • Other ministers and advisers received rugs, wall hangings, porcelain, books, and shields.

Context

While some dignitaries, especially from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia, offered lavish gifts such as luxury cars and high-end watches, most items recorded were symbolic tokens like carpets, handicrafts, and religious artefacts.

The cabinet division is still assessing the official valuation of these gifts. The Toshakhana record underscores how traditional and luxury items continue to shape diplomatic gestures across the region.
