Security forces killed five terrorists, including a key commander, during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Sarkani and Chedgi areas of Panjgur district, Balochistan, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday. The operation was carried out under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna-3, and targeted a group Pakistan’s military refers to as “Fitna al Hindustan” — its term for what it describes as India-backed militancy in the country. Among those killed was a commander identified only as Wazir. Security forces also recovered four motorcycles, machine guns, heavy weapons and ammunition from the site, according to the report.

Militants Linked to Robbery, Extortion in Panjgur
According to Radio Pakistan, the slain militants had been involved in robbery, extortion, kidnapping and attacks targeting local traders and residents across Panjgur. The report attributed the details to security sources, who said the operation formed part of the wider Radd-ul-Fitna-3 campaign against militant networks operating in the province.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for the operation, according to state-run APP. He said the action had disrupted the militants’ activities in the region and reflected the forces’ preparedness and professionalism. Naqvi added that removing militant elements from the province was necessary for restoring lasting peace in Balochistan, and said the government and the public remained committed to backing security forces as they worked to dismantle militant networks across the country.
Part of a Wider Push Against Militancy in Balochistan
Monday’s operation followed a day after security forces killed 15 militants in a series of intelligence-based operations spanning Mastung, Bolan, Washuk, Awaran, Sibi, Khuzdar, Harnai and Nushki, also under Radd-ul-Fitna-3, according to state media.
The renewed operational tempo comes as Balochistan continues to grapple with a difficult security environment. A monthly assessment released on July 31 by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) found that the province’s security situation had deteriorated more sharply than anywhere else in the country last month. Overall deaths in Balochistan rose 241 percent, climbing from 109 in June to 372 in July, the assessment said. Security personnel deaths jumped from six to 62 over the same period — a rise of 933 percent — while militant deaths rose from 75 to 238. Civilian deaths increased 93 percent, from 28 to 54, and 18 members of local peace committees were also killed.
The current wave of operations traces back in part to Operation Shaban, launched last month after gunmen stormed a police post at the Mangi Dam pumping station in Ziarat on July 6, kidnapping and killing 27 police officers.
Officials say the string of recent IBOs signals a sustained push to degrade militant networks operating in Balochistan, even as the province’s monthly casualty figures point to a security challenge that remains far from resolved.
