Quetta Police Arrest Dozens in 80 Intelligence-Based Operations Over Six Weeks

QUETTA — Quetta police have carried out 80 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) over the past six weeks, arresting dozens of suspects linked to murder, robbery, and vehicle theft while recovering millions of rupees’ worth of stolen assets, senior officials announced on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference at the Police Lines, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Imran Shoukat and SSP Serious Crime Investigation Wing Imran Qureshi outlined the operations, describing the sustained crackdown as part of efforts to protect citizens’ lives and property amid rising urban crime.

One of the most significant breakthroughs, officials said, came when the Serious Crime Investigation Wing dismantled an interprovincial vehicle-lifting gang operating between Sindh and Balochistan. Four alleged members were arrested, and 20 stolen vehicles were recovered.

The wing also solved five blind murder cases and made arrests in multiple robbery investigations. Stolen items recovered during these operations included cash, weapons, mobile phones, valuables, and a substantial quantity of narcotics.

In total, Quetta police arrested 12 suspects in separate murder, theft, and robbery cases. Among them were three individuals — Atiya Rehman, Roman Ilyas, and Babar Ali — apprehended in connection with the murder of Imad Kakar. Authorities said the shop where the unlicensed murder weapon had been purchased was sealed.

DIG Shoukat highlighted several additional operations, noting the arrest of Abdullah and Ibrahim for allegedly looting more than Rs20 million from a warehouse in Sariab after holding a guard hostage. Police said they recovered over 80 per cent of the stolen goods.

In another case, suspects Fayyaz Ali, Sabir Ali, and Muhammad Salman were detained for a house robbery involving more than Rs7 million in gold jewellery, valuables, and cash. Separately, Najibullah, Janan, and Rahmatullah were arrested for snatching Rs11.8 million, which was also recovered.

Officials confirmed that cases have been registered against all detainees and legal proceedings are underway.

DIG Shoukat issued a strong warning against illicit activities, linking them to terror financing networks. “Money generated from drugs and illegal Iranian petrol is being used for terrorism,” he said, adding that station house officers (SHOs) have been directed to eliminate illegal trade, gambling, and the sale of Iranian fuel. He warned that SHOs would face suspension if such activities were found in their jurisdictions.

Both officials paid tribute to police personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty and underscored the importance of public cooperation in ensuring lasting stability and security in Quetta.
