FIA Launches Crackdown on Social Media Accounts Spreading Fake News About Passenger Offloading

Rawalpindi, November 27, 2025: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated formal legal proceedings through its National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) against more than 15 social media accounts found disseminating fabricated and inflammatory content regarding the alleged arbitrary offloading of passengers at Pakistani airports.
Sources told a newspaper that the accounts were deliberately circulating misleading videos, including AI-generated clips, and baseless claims that travellers with complete documents were being removed from flights without justification. Officials described the campaign as a coordinated attempt to damage the FIA’s reputation, incite inter-provincial hatred, and create unnecessary public panic.

FIA Lahore Zone Director Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Zia, in a video statement issued Thursday, categorically rejected the rumours. “All these reports have no connection with reality,” he said, stressing that passengers are only offloaded if they possess incomplete, forged, or suspicious documents, provide evasive answers during immigration screening, or are suspected of links with human traffickers.
The intensified scrutiny follows last year’s Greece boat tragedy and a nationwide crackdown on migrant smuggling networks. FIA Director General Riffat Mukhtar had earlier confirmed isolated offloading incidents at Lahore and Karachi airports were under review.
Authorities urged citizens to avoid illegal travel agents, ensure all documents are genuine, and contact the FIA Immigration helpline (1991) for any legitimate grievances. Cases against the identified accounts are being registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
