Weekly Inflation Rises 5.05pc Amid Higher Food Prices

Nov 1, 2025 | Current Affairs, Economy

ISLAMABAD, NOV 1, 2025: Short-term inflation, measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), climbed 5.05 percent year-on-year during the week ending October 30, primarily driven by rising prices of perishable food items in local markets.

According to data released on Friday, weekly inflation has now maintained an upward trend for the past 13 consecutive weeks. While the SPI inched up by 0.12 percent compared with the previous week, the overall increase reflects persistent pressure on household budgets due to higher costs of essential commodities.

Officials attributed the latest surge mainly to higher retail prices of onions, tomatoes, potatoes, wheat flour, and edible oil. The closure of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border disrupted supply chains for several perishable goods, contributing to a notable jump in market rates. In addition, a continued rise in sugar and meat prices has further intensified inflationary pressures.
