ANP Claims KP Government Has Ceased to Exist

Provincial President of the Awami National Party (ANP), Mian Iftikhar Hussain, has issued a scathing indictment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) administration, declaring that the provincial government has “practically ceased to exist.”

Addressing a protest demonstration at Pishtakhara Chowk on Monday, February 16, 2026, Hussain described the province as a “picture of administrative paralysis, insecurity, and extreme governance failure.”

The Tirah Valley Crisis

The protest, organized by ANP’s Khyber chapter, focused on the “inhumane treatment” of residents displaced from Tirah Valley.

• Allegations of Corruption: Hussain alleged that Rs 4 billion allocated for the rehabilitation of Tirah’s displaced persons has been “lost to corruption,” leaving the affected families destitute.
• Refugee Status: He claimed that citizens in the Chief Minister’s own home district (Khyber) are being treated as “destitute refugees,” deprived of basic rights, lands, and livelihoods.
• Registration Failures: The ANP leader criticized the registration points for the displaced, calling them “centers of humiliation” rather than hubs for rehabilitation and relief.

Security and Law & Order Collapse

Hussain highlighted a sharp decline in provincial security, citing recent violent incidents as evidence of a total breakdown in state control:

• Bannu Blast: A recent explosion outside a police station that claimed the lives of two civilians, including a child.
• Shangla Encounter: The killing of three police officers during a recent clash with militants.
• Daily Terror: He noted that terror incidents have become a “daily routine” across Waziristan, Chitral, Bajaur, Bannu, and Shangla.

Political Accusations: “Fascist-Style Governance”

The ANP president accused the PTI-led provincial government of prioritizing the interests of a “single individual” (referring to Imran Khan) over the safety and welfare of the province’s residents.

• Suppression of Dissent: Hussain alleged that political and social activists raising voices for the displaced are being harassed and silenced.
• Federal Failure: He also held the federal government equally responsible, accusing both Islamabad and Peshawar of engaging in “political point-scoring” while the public continues to suffer.

The ANP’s criticism aligns with broader unrest in the province. On Friday, February 13, local government representatives staged a major sit-in in Peshawar demanding funds and powers, complaining that the provincial cabinet was too focused on protests in Islamabad to address grassroots governance.
