ISLAMABAD (April 22, 2026) — The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially institutionalized a fully digital judicial model, successfully conducting multi-city hearings this week despite the high-security lockdown in the federal capital. The transition marks a “paradigm shift” for the judiciary, moving away from physical paperwork and logistical hurdles toward a more transparent, citizen-centric system.

The Digital Transformation

  • Benches in Islamabad now routinely connect with counsel and litigants in Quetta, Karachi, Hyderabad, and Lahore simultaneously.
  • The court has transitioned to fully digitized case files, eliminating the need to move physical records between branch registries.
  • Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Ayesha Malik recently conducted joint proceedings while sitting in separate cities, ensuring zero delays in the judicial calendar.
  •  New features include digital case-filing, barcoded tracking, electronic transmission of orders, and online payment systems for litigants.

Redefining Access to Justice

A court handout issued on Wednesday described the initiative as a decisive step in making the legal process more inclusive. By utilizing video-link technology and an integrated e-office system, the Supreme Court has bridged the distance between the Principal Seat and provincial registries. This was demonstrated today as an entire docket was heard with the bench in Islamabad while all parties joined from Quetta, showcasing a seamless, tech-enabled ecosystem.

Efficiency and Cost Reduction

The shift to digital case files is expected to significantly reduce procedural delays. In the past, hearings were often adjourned due to the time required to retrieve physical files from provincial branches. With the new system, secure and real-time access to records allows for faster decision-making and lower costs for litigants, who no longer need to travel to Islamabad for high-court appearances.
