Welcoming Sheikh Zayed and his delegation at the Ministry of Interior, Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to treating narcotics control as a national priority. Both sides held detailed talks and agreed to expand intelligence sharing, joint operations, and bilateral coordination.
To facilitate closer cooperation, Pakistan appointed Director General Anti-Narcotics Force Maj. Gen. Abdul Mueed as focal person, while the UAE designated Brig. Taher Gharib as special representative. Naqvi congratulated Sheikh Zayed on becoming the first chairman of the UAE’s newly established authority, calling it a milestone in regional efforts against drug smuggling.
“The establishment of this authority will significantly boost joint efforts between Pakistan and the UAE in combating narcotics,” Naqvi said, highlighting Pakistan’s frontline role in anti-drug operations. He noted that more than 400 suspects had been arrested and five tons of narcotics seized in trafficking cases linked to the UAE, attributing these results to timely coordination between the two countries.
Naqvi also warned of a recent uptick in synthetic drug smuggling, stressing that Pakistan was determined to intensify its crackdown on such networks. “This is a war for the future of our generations, and defeat is not an option,” he said.
Sheikh Zayed assured Naqvi of the UAE’s full support, pledging “every possible cooperation” to strengthen bilateral anti-narcotics efforts and safeguard future generations.
The Emirati delegation included senior anti-narcotics officials from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. Pakistani officials present were Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the interior secretary, senior ministry representatives, and the DG Anti-Narcotics Force.
