ISLAMABAD, May 11 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Monday that Pakistan’s information technology exports are on track to reach an unprecedented $4.5 billion to $4.6 billion during the current fiscal year. During a high-level review meeting of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, officials highlighted a massive surge in the country’s digital infrastructure and revenue streams. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the IT sector remains a top priority for the government, specifically focusing on bridging the digital divide between urban and rural areas to leverage the potential of Pakistan’s youth.

The meeting detailed significant progress in connectivity, noting that fiber optic cables have already been provided to government schools and health units within the federal capital. Additionally, specialized e-learning pods are being installed in Saidpur Model Village and Fatima Jinnah Park to facilitate digital education. The Prime Minister directed provincial and district governments to collaborate closely to ensure these technological advancements reach underserved rural populations.
In his concluding remarks, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the rapid growth in the IT sector is essential for national economic stability. He noted that the successful 5G rollout and the scale of international participation in digital forums like Indus AI Week signify growing global confidence in Pakistan’s tech ecosystem. The government plans to further expedite the establishment of service centers in regional territories to streamline digital governance and support the expanding freelance and startup community.
