QUETTA, Oct 15, 2025 — Tensions flared once again along the Pak-Afghan border in Chaman after Afghan forces opened unprovoked fire on the civilian population, injuring at least four people, including two children, according to security officials.

The incident occurred early Tuesday, prompting an immediate and effective response from Pakistani security forces. Officials said that Pakistani forces targeted Afghan Taliban hideouts in Weesh Mandi and Spin Boldak, reportedly killing two and injuring 10 others in retaliatory fire.

“Afghan forces initiated unprovoked firing in Chaman, directly targeting civilians,” a security source confirmed. “Pakistan responded with precision strikes on militant positions across the border.”

The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, and the firing has ceased for now, officials said. In the aftermath, security has been heightened, and patrols have been intensified along sensitive points of the border to prevent any further escalation.

As a precautionary measure, the Balochistan government has closed all educational institutions in Chaman for the day. Additionally, the ongoing polio vaccination campaign in the area has been temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of health workers and residents.

Tensions along the Chaman border, a key crossing point between Pakistan and Afghanistan, have remained high in recent months, with several incidents of cross-border fire reported.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to exercise restraint and prevent cross-border provocations, especially those targeting non-combatants.

Security forces maintain that the situation is now under full control, but remain on high alert amid fears of further aggression from across the border.
