October 14, 2025 — QUETTA: Pakistan temporarily reopened the Chaman border crossing with Afghanistan on Monday to facilitate the repatriation of stranded Afghan refugees, officials confirmed. Hundreds of Afghan nationals, including women and children, had been waiting near the border for days following the closure of the Friendship Gate (Bab-e-Dosti) amid heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier.

Deputy Commissioner Habibullah Bangulzai said the Friendship Gate was opened at 3 pm for a limited period to allow refugees to return “with dignity and respect.” The border remained open for about two and a half hours, during which roughly 200 families crossed with their belongings.
Hundreds of Afghan nationals had been stranded at the Pak-Afghan border in Chaman, a key border city in Balochistan, after the closure of the Bab-e-Dosti Gate disrupted movement and trade.

Officials clarified that trade, transit traffic, and routine pedestrian movement remain suspended until further orders. Tribal elders expressed hope that border operations would be fully restored soon. Security forces remain on high alert across Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Bubandi, Zhob, Badini, and Baramcha, with the situation reported as tense but stable.
