Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq Intensifies; 274 Militants Killed as IAF Strikes Key Targets

Feb 27, 2026 | Current Affairs, Afghanistan

The border conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan has entered a significant escalation. Following unprovoked aggression from the Afghan side, the Pakistan Armed Forces launched Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq (also referred to in initial reports as Operation Zarb-ul-Haq), delivering a crushing response that has targeted the heart of the Taliban regime’s military infrastructure.

Massive Casualties & Infrastructure Destruction

According to the latest briefings from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and security sources, the Afghan Taliban has suffered historic losses in the last 24 hours:

  • Casualties: 274 Afghan Taliban killed and over 200 injured.
  • Ammunition & Hardware: Over 115 tanks, artillery guns, and Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) have been destroyed.
  • Key Installations Hit: * Kabul: Two Brigade Headquarters destroyed.
    • Kandahar: One Corps Headquarters, one Brigade Headquarters, a logistics base, and an ammunition depot obliterated.
    • Nangarhar: A “massive” ammunition depot leveled by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
    • Paktia: One Corps Headquarters targeted.

Strategic Territorial Shifts

In a decisive ground push, Pakistani forces have not only neutralized threats but seized strategic territory:

  • Flag Hoisted: The Pakistani flag now flies over 5 captured Afghan posts in the Paktia region (opposite South Waziristan).
  • Total Posts: A total of 73 Afghan posts have been completely destroyed, while 18 have been captured by Pakistani troops.
  • Terminal Destruction: The Afghan terminal at Angoor Adda was demolished to sever enemy supply lines.http://

Hostilities Target Civilians

Following their military setbacks, reports indicate that Afghan forces have begun targeting civilian populations.

  • Bajaur Sector: Mortar shells fired from Afghanistan hit the Laghrai area, injuring five civilians (including three women) and damaging a local mosque.
  • Retreat & Surrender: Despite the attacks on civilians, security sources report that Taliban forces in Khost and Mohmand have been seen hoisting white flags at their posts—a traditional sign of surrender—before fleeing in panic.

Leadership & National Response

The Pakistani leadership has stood unified in the face of this “Open War”:

  • PM Shehbaz Sharif: Stated that the armed forces are “determined not to allow the country’s peace to be compromised” and are fully equipped to deal with any external challenge.

  • Defence Minister Khawaja Asif: Issued a stern warning: “Our patience has run out… now it will be a fierce battle.” He accused the Taliban of acting as a “sidekick” to Indian interests.
  • Minister Talal Chaudhry: Echoed the sentiment of regional deterrence, noting that the same strong response given on the eastern border (India) is now being delivered on the western front.

Countering Propaganda

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar warned the public against “false and baseless propaganda” being spread by Indian and Taliban-linked social media accounts. He clarified that rumors of Pakistani territorial losses or captured soldiers are “illusions” designed to cover the embarrassment of the Taliban’s military defeat.
