ISLAMABAD – August 5, 2025: Today marks six years since India’s unilateral abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, which stripped Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) of its special constitutional status. Far from being a moment of integration, Pakistan and Kashmiris worldwide observe this date as Youm-e-Istehsal – the Day of Exploitation.
From Pakistan’s Perspective:
- A Grave Injustice: Pakistan continues to condemn the August 5, 2019, decision as an illegal annexation. It views the move as a violation of international law, UN resolutions, and the will of the Kashmiri people.
- Youm-e-Istehsal: The day is marked by protests, solidarity rallies, and media campaigns to expose ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK.
- Day of Resistance: Kashmiri leaders inside and outside the valley reaffirm that their struggle for self-determination is far from over. Despite India’s heavy military presence, calls for strikes and symbolic black days continue.
Global Engagement:
- Pakistani officials, diaspora communities, and rights activists use this day to urge the international community to break its silence on Kashmir.
- Events across Pakistan highlight the resilience of the Kashmiri people and the importance of standing firm against occupation and injustice.
India may present August 5 as a developmental milestone—but for Kashmiris and Pakistanis, it remains a day of mourning, resistance, and unwavering resolve.
