27 October 2025 – Pakistan Observes Black Day in Solidarity with Kashmir

Oct 27, 2025 | Editorial

It was 27 October 1947, when Indian forces were airlifted in Srinagar to illegally occupy and annex the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. What appeared to be a closure of the dispute actually marked the beginning of a continuously burning volcano opening in the region, which eventually became nuclear on both sides of the disputed territory.

The Indian side always presents the instrument of accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh, which acceded the state to India as a prequel to their military action, but:

  1. The ruler did not keep the wishes and consent of its people in mind while making the decision.
  2. He had practically lost the validity as ruler, as till that time the indigenous population had already overruled his reign both politically and by an armed rebellion.

Since then, this day has been a remembrance as Black Day in memory of the people of Kashmir on both sides of the LoC. Kashmini people never accepted the illegal occupation of their land and till this date continue their struggle for freedom from Indian occupation. There have been around 100,000 deaths and thousands of forced disappearances from the indian military since then.

Pakistan stands by Kashmir in its principal and practical stance. A free and fair plebiscite is a fundamental right of every Kashmiri, as per UN resolutions on the issue. It affirms its support for the Kashmiri people on this occasion as the Prime Minister’s office issued a notice for one minute’s silence on 27 October 2025 to symbolically express grief for the Kashmiri people, commemorating the illegal Indian occupation of the region. Both the PM and the President issued separate messages on this occasion, urging the UN and the international community to play their role regarding the issue. They also urged the international community to take notice of the human rights conditions in the region and hold India accountable for all the violations it has committed over the last seven and a half decades.

A peaceful, permanent solution to the Kashmir Issue is crucial to maintaining lasting peace in the South Asian region. An unsolved Kashmir issue is like a hanging sword over a nuclear region. On this day, we not only condemn Indian atrocities in the area but also demand a free and fair plebiscite in Kashmir.
