PTI, JUI-F Applaud Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Defence Partnership

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have welcomed the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) signed in Riyadh earlier this week, terming it a milestone in strengthening ties between the two brotherly nations.

In a statement shared on social media, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram described the agreement as “a reaffirmation of historic relations rooted in Islamic brotherhood, shared strategic interests, and mutual support.” The party said the protection of Harmain-ul-Sharifain was “the core of every Pakistani’s belief” and viewed the pact as a step toward greater Muslim unity. PTI, however, urged the government to share details of the agreement with the public, stressing the importance of transparency.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also hailed the defence accord, calling it the “first step towards forming an Islamic bloc.” Speaking at the conclusion of his Sindh Peace March, he said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were natural leaders of the Muslim world and must stand united against external threats. He reiterated JUI-F’s long-standing stance against Zionism and voiced support for the Sumud Flotilla, an international effort carrying aid for Gaza.

The SMDA was signed on September 17 by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, marking a significant expansion of defence and security cooperation between Islamabad and Riyadh.
