RAWALPINDI – November 15, 2025: Minister of Defence of Tajikistan Colonel General Sobirzoda Emomali Abdulrahim met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Friday, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation amid evolving regional security challenges.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, counter-terrorism collaboration, regional peace, and enhanced military ties. The two military leaders reviewed ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Tajikistan — the two key members of several multilateral security platforms including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Both sides expressed a shared resolve to bolster military-to-military engagement, with a special focus on joint training programmes, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and coordinated efforts to combat terrorism. Pakistan and Tajikistan have long cooperated in countering the movement of transnational militant groups operating across Afghanistan’s northern and western corridors, and Friday’s discussions emphasised the urgency of sustained collaboration.

The Tajik defence minister praised the professionalism and operational capability of the Pakistan Army, acknowledging its significant role in promoting regional stability, securing borders, and combating extremist networks. He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s long-standing support to Tajikistan in defence training and capacity-building programmes, including the training of Tajik military officers at Pakistan’s military institutions.

COAS Munir underscored the importance of collective regional efforts to maintain peace, particularly in the context of Afghanistan’s volatile security environment, which continues to affect neighbouring states. “Pakistan remains committed to deepening defence and security ties with Tajikistan and working together for regional stability and prosperity,” the ISPR statement quoted him as saying.

The meeting is part of a broader series of high-level defence engagements Pakistan has pursued with Central Asian states in recent months to counter emerging threats, strengthen border security, and deepen cooperation on counterterrorism. Officials noted that both countries share concerns over rising militant activities in the region and view enhanced defence coordination as essential for long-term stability.

The Tajik minister also held discussions with senior Pakistani military officials during his visit and is expected to explore additional avenues of cooperation in defence technology, border management and regional connectivity projects before concluding his trip.
