LAHORE — Eleven people, including children, were killed and six others injured when a three-storey residential building suddenly collapsed late Wednesday night in Lahore’s Harbanspura area, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The death toll reached 11 after rescue workers recovered the body of a young girl from the rubble, bringing an end to a lengthy and difficult search and rescue operation conducted by Rescue 1122 and district administration teams.

Birthday Gathering Ends in Tragedy

Lahore Deputy Commissioner’s spokesperson Harris Ali said the house belonged to three brothers and their families. It was unusually crowded on Wednesday evening as their sister and her children had come over to celebrate a family member’s birthday when the building gave way without warning.

According to officials, the structure collapsed floor by floor from the top, burying several family members under heavy debris.
