Opposition Sit-in Day 4 Focuses on Imran Khan’s Al-Shifa Transfer

Feb 16, 2026 | PTI

The political standoff in Islamabad has entered its fourth consecutive day today, Monday, February 16, 2026. While the intensity of the protests has shifted, the central demand of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) alliance remains unchanged: the immediate transfer of Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital.

Status of the Sit-ins

The opposition has consolidated its protest today, moving from a three-pronged strategy to a singular focus at the Parliament House.

  • Parliament House (Ongoing): The primary protest continues with heavyweights like Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas in attendance.
  • KP House & Parliament Lodges (Ended): The demonstrations at these locations have concluded. CM Sohail Afridi and Ali Amin Gandapur have reportedly departed the KP House protest site.

The Medical Standoff: Adiala vs. Al-Shifa

The government and opposition are currently locked in a disagreement over the location and nature of Khan’s treatment:

The Government’s Position The Opposition’s Position
Claims Khan is stable after an hour-long exam by 5 senior doctors on Sunday. Cites the amicus curiae report detailing Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO).
Asserts that the “pain has reduced significantly” with jail-based treatment. Rejects jail-based exams as “malicious” without family/personal doctors.
Willing to form a board but prefers state facilities (PIMS/AFIO). Demands transfer to Al-Shifa Trust or Shifa International.

Legal Front: High Court & Supreme Court

Parallel to the street protests, two critical legal developments are unfolding today:

  1. Supreme Court Deadline: Today is the final deadline for the government to submit the comprehensive medical report to the bench headed by CJP Yahya Afridi. This report will determine if the court orders a hospital transfer.
  2. IHC Bail Plea: Imran Khan has filed a fresh petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking the suspension of his sentence in the Toshakhana-2 case (Bulgari jewelry) on medical and humanitarian grounds. He is also seeking an early hearing in the Al-Qadir Trust (£190m) case.

What is CRVO?

The condition at the heart of this crisis, Central Retinal Vein Occlusion, is a blockage of the main vein that carries blood away from the retina.

  • Impact: Can cause sudden, painless vision loss.
  • Risk Factors: The report highlights Khan’s age (73) and potential cardiovascular stressors as complicating factors.
