- Diversions: Several inbound flights were rerouted:
- A Flydubai flight from Dubai was diverted to Multan.
- A PIA flight from Skardu was diverted to Sukkur.
- Accessibility Crisis: Sharea Faisal and Drigh Road, key access routes to the airport, were submerged in floodwaters, leaving passengers and staff stuck in long traffic jams. Many were unable to reach the terminal on time.
- Airlines Affected:
- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) faced the heaviest disruptions, with domestic cancellations on routes to Quetta and Islamabad.
- International departures to Jeddah and Madinah also experienced long delays.
- Advisories Issued: The Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) and airlines have urged passengers to stay in touch with call centers and check road conditions before heading to the airport.
Context: The disruption comes amid widespread urban flooding in Karachi, which has already claimed multiple lives and prompted the Sindh government to declare August 20 a public holiday.
