Background of abduction:
-
- AC Baqi and his son, Mustansar Bilal, were kidnapped on August 10 from Zahzri area of Ziarat while returning from a picnic.
- Family members and guards were released, but the officer and his son were taken away. Their vehicle was later set on fire.
- Last week, a video surfaced showing the AC and his son appealing to the government to accept the kidnappers’ demands.
Reports on son’s fate:
-
- Initial claims suggested the officer’s son was also killed.
- Officials, however, said confirmation would only be possible once identification was completed at DHQ Hospital, Harnai.
- Muhammad Afzal Baqi, a resident of Taunsa Sharif (Punjab), was a veteran Balochistan government officer. He began his career as a patwari in the revenue department and reached retirement on September 3, 2025, while still in captivity.
Reaction from leadership:
-
- Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the killing, calling it a “cowardly and brutal act.”
- He described the slain officer as dutiful, hardworking, and honest.
- Security forces continue operations in Harnai and adjoining districts to trace the perpetrators and confirm the identity of the second body.
