LAHORE, October 16,2025 : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered the consolidation of the government’s appeal against PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s acquittal in the Shadman police station attack case with other pending appeals related to the May 9 Appeals.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa issued the directive while hearing a prosecution plea challenging Mr Qureshi’s acquittal. During proceedings, Deputy Prosecutor General Muhammad Shafiq informed the court that multiple appeals from convicted individuals in May 9 cases were already pending adjudication.

In response, the bench directed the registrar’s office to club the prosecution’s appeal with the relevant pending cases to ensure consistency in hearings and verdicts.
The government’s appeal argued that the trial court had erroneously acquitted the former foreign minister, disregarding substantial evidence presented by the prosecution. It maintained that the court failed to assess key facts that could have led to a conviction and urged the high court to overturn the acquittal.
Mr Qureshi was acquitted on August 11 by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in two cases related to the May 9 violence, including attacks on Shadman police station and the arson of police vehicles near Jinnah House. He has since been acquitted in other related cases but remains in custody over additional charges linked to the nationwide unrest following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
