Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday lauded US President Donald Trump as a “man of peace” during their much-anticipated meeting at the White House. The landmark engagement marked the first formal bilateral interaction between the two leaders, underscoring a new phase of warming ties between Islamabad and Washington.

Accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir NI, the prime minister expressed admiration for President Trump’s “bold and decisive leadership” that helped facilitate a ceasefire between Pakistan and India earlier this year, averting a major regional crisis.

The meeting took place at the Oval Office in an atmosphere described by both sides as cordial and forward-looking. US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also present.

Focus on Counter-Terrorism and Security

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation on counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing. Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked President Trump for publicly acknowledging Pakistan’s contributions in fighting terrorism, stressing that enhanced security collaboration would serve regional and global stability.

The Pakistani premier also welcomed Trump’s initiative to convene Muslim leaders in New York for consultations aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza. He praised the US president’s efforts toward achieving peace in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank.

Trade and Investment Prospects

Prime Minister Shehbaz further appreciated the tariff arrangement concluded between Pakistan and the US earlier this year, noting its role in boosting bilateral trade. He invited American companies to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s agriculture, IT, mines and minerals, and energy sectors.

“The longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the United States will only grow stronger under President Trump’s leadership,” PM Shehbaz said, extending a cordial invitation for the US president to visit Pakistan at his convenience.

Warm Welcome in Washington

Upon arrival at Andrews Airbase, the prime minister received a red-carpet reception by senior US Air Force officials. His motorcade, accompanied by Field Marshal Munir, traveled under tight security to the White House for the high-profile meeting.

President Trump, speaking to reporters earlier, described both PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir as “great people” and expressed confidence in advancing cooperation across counter-terrorism, economic, and regional fronts.

The meeting comes as Pakistan reasserts its role as a stabilizing force in South Asia and beyond. With the US-Pakistan partnership regaining momentum, both sides have signaled readiness to address regional challenges together—anchored in mutual respect and shared aspirations for peace.
