KARACHI: A 17-year-old domestic worker was allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted by multiple men in Karachi’s Gulshan-i-Maymar area, police said on Wednesday, as senior officers ordered disciplinary action over an alleged delay in the registration of the case.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday when the teenage girl, who works as a maid, was abducted from the area and taken to an undisclosed location where she was subjected to sexual and physical violence.
Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the victim was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where a medico-legal examination confirmed that she had been “subjected to sexual violence”. She added that all relevant samples were collected for serological testing, DNA profiling and cross-matching to assist the investigation.

Police officials claimed that immediate action was taken after the matter came to their notice and that one suspect had been arrested, while efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining accused, who are currently absconding.

Speaking to a private television channel, the victim said she worked as a domestic helper and alleged that she was kidnapped by “influential men” who took her to an unknown location and assaulted her. She also alleged that when she and her family initially approached the police station to register a complaint, the station house officer (SHO) refused to lodge the FIR.
