MOHMAND — Two police personnel, including an Additional Station House Officer (SHO), embraced martyrdom late Thursday night after heavily armed terrorists ambushed a police mobile patrol vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand district.
The targeted attack transpired near the Warsak Lift Canal within the Machni locality, falling under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ekkaghund police station. According to an official police statement, militants belonging to the banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)—officially designated by the state as Fitna al Khawarij—opened indiscriminate fire on the routine police patrol.

Casualties and Tactical Response
Additional SHO Zaitullah and Elite Force Constable Noor Zeb died on the spot while returning fire during the initial onslaught. The driver of the police mobile, identified as Zahir, sustained critical gunshot wounds. Following emergency field stabilization, he was immediately transported to a tertiary healthcare facility in Peshawar for advanced medical intervention.
The remaining personnel inside the mobile unit responded swiftly to the ambush, executing counter-offensive maneuvers that ultimately forced the insurgent cell to retreat under fire.
Official security sources confirmed that several terrorists were reportedly eliminated during the intense exchange of gunfire. Before fleeing deep into the rugged terrain, the retreating militants abandoned an array of tactical gear and weapons, including:
- One M4 automatic rifle
- One Kalashnikov assault rifle
- Three fully loaded magazines
Search Operations and State Funerals
Following the clash, a heavy reinforcement contingent led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ekkaghund Circle Dilfaraz Khan and SHO Qasim Jan cordoned off the entire Machni sector. A massive search and clearance operation has been activated across the mountainous border zones to track down the fleeing assailants.
The Mohmand District Police reiterated its institutional resolve, vowing that the supreme sacrifices rendered by the martyred officials would not be in vain and that counter-insurgency operations would continue unabated until the regional threat is neutralized.
Early Friday morning, the state funeral prayers for Additional SHO Zaitullah and Constable Noor Zeb were held with full official protocol at the Police Lines in Ghalanai. The funeral was attended by Mohmand District Police Officer (DPO) Raza Mohammad, Mohmand Rifles Commandant Asim Mahmood, Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sajid Khan, alongside top-ranking civil and military administrators.
