PPP Set to Observe 18th Anniversary of Karsaz Bombing with Simplicity

Oct 18, 2025 | Politics

KARACHI, Oct 18,2025: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will mark the 18th anniversary of the Karsaz bombing on October 18 with solemnity and simplicity, party leaders announced on Thursday.

The tragic attack occurred on October 18, 2007, during a grand welcome rally for Benazir Bhutto as she returned to Pakistan from exile. The twin blasts near Karsaz claimed the lives of more than 150 party workers and supporters and left hundreds injured in one of the deadliest attacks on a political rally in the country’s history.

In a statement, PPP leaders said the anniversary would be observed to pay tribute to the martyrs of democracy. Prayers will be offered for the departed souls, and the party leadership will reaffirm its commitment to democratic values and the fight against terrorism.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is expected to issue a message on the occasion, while party workers have been advised to hold local gatherings and avoid large-scale events in line with the leadership’s decision to maintain a low-key commemoration this year.

The Karsaz tragedy remains a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s political history, symbolising both the resilience and sacrifice of the PPP and its supporters. Benazir Bhutto herself narrowly survived the attack but was later assassinated in Rawalpindi in December 2007.
