RAWALPINDI: Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, on Monday filed an application seeking her acquittal under Section 265-K of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in a case related to the Nov 26 protest, as the Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Rawalpindi, issued notices to the parties to respond to the plea.
During a hearing that lasted nearly five hours, the prosecution recorded statements of eight witnesses in the case, which has been registered against 11 suspects, including Ms Khan. She appeared before the court along with her legal counsel, while Prosecutor Faisal Malik represented the state.
The court formally took up the acquittal application and sought replies from the relevant parties. However, the defence requested that further proceedings be scheduled after the winter vacation. Accepting the request, the court adjourned the hearing until Jan 2.
Earlier in the proceedings, Aleema Khan informed the court that 11 books had been submitted with a request that they be delivered to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder. The court responded that the books had already been received by Imran Khan and that a confirmation report had been submitted by jail authorities. Ms Khan thanked the court for facilitating the delivery.

The case relates to the Nov 26 protest, in which several PTI leaders are facing trial before the anti-terrorism court. During Monday’s hearing, statements were recorded from witnesses belonging to various departments and institutions. These included Noor Ahmed from the Press Information Department (PID), Nader Khan from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), Muhammad Sabtain from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Inspector Yaqub Shah of the Rawalpindi police, and Additional Superintendent of Jail Ali Amir Shah, among others.
Separately, developments related to Imran Khan’s legal matters were also reported during the hearing. According to his counsel, Advocate Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, the former prime minister was unable to sign the power of attorney documents required to file an appeal against his recent conviction in the Toshakhana case.

The lawyer told the court that he had waited for approximately three hours at the jail for a meeting with Imran Khan to obtain the necessary signatures, but jail authorities ultimately declined to facilitate the meeting. As a result, the appeal could not be filed.
The proceedings are expected to resume after the court’s winter recess, when arguments on the acquittal plea and further developments in the case will be taken up.
