As of Friday morning, February 27, 2026, the border skirmishes between Pakistan and Afghanistan have transformed into a full-scale military confrontation. Following a night of “unprovoked” Taliban artillery strikes across the Durand Line, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and ground troops launched Operation Ghazab-lil-Haqq (“Righteous Fury”), striking deep into Afghan territory including Kabul and Kandahar.
افغان طالبان رجیم کی جانب سے پاکستان افغانستان سرحد پر بلا اشتعال فائرنگ کی کاروائیوں کا بھرپور و مؤثر جواب دیا جا رہا ہے اور جاتا رہے گا.

Massive Casualties and Strategic Hits
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and security sources have released staggering figures regarding the scale of the Pakistani retaliation:
- Taliban Losses: 133 Afghan Taliban operatives have been killed and over 200 wounded in the latest wave of strikes. This significantly updates the earlier figure of 44.
- Hardware Destruction: Over 80 tanks, artillery guns, and armored personnel carriers (APCs) belonging to the Taliban regime have been destroyed.
- Captures: Pakistani forces have overrun and captured 27 Afghan border posts, hoisting the Pakistani flag on several of them after forcing the retreat of Taliban fighters.
- Pakistan’s Toll: Two Pakistani security personnel were martyred and three others wounded during the initial exchange of fire.
Deep Strikes: Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia
In a major shift in rules of engagement, Pakistan’s response was not limited to the border:
- Kabul Under Fire: Loud explosions rocked the Afghan capital around 1:50 AM Friday. Pakistan confirms it destroyed two Brigade Headquarters in Kabul.
- Kandahar & Paktia: Air strikes successfully neutralized a Corps Headquarters, a Brigade Headquarters, a logistics base, and a major ammunition depot in Kandahar.
- Ammunition Hubs: A “massive” ammunition depot in Nangarhar province was completely obliterated by the PAF.

The Propaganda War
The conflict is being fought as much on social media as on the ground:
- Taliban Claims: Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid claimed Afghan forces captured 15 Pakistani outposts and killed dozens of soldiers—claims that Islamabad has categorically rejected as “fantasy” and “Indian-sponsored propaganda.”
- Laser Units: The Taliban claimed to have deployed “specialized laser units” under the cover of night to target Pakistani positions.
- Islamabad’s Denial: PM’s spokesperson Mosharraf Zaidi emphasized that “no Pakistani posts have been captured or damaged,” asserting that all claims of Pakistani territorial loss are baseless.
Current Conflict Zones (Active Firing Reported)
| Sector | Status | Key Activity |

A “Cup of Patience Overflown”
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif issued a chilling warning on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Our cup of patience has overflowed. Now it is open war between us and you.” This follows months of failed diplomacy and the breakdown of the October ceasefire.
