RAWALPINDI – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Friday, February 27, 2026, receiving a comprehensive briefing on the rapidly escalating conflict with the Afghan Taliban. The visit marks a critical moment as Pakistan transitions to a full-scale counter-offensive, officially dubbed Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq (Righteous Fury).

PM Briefed on “Open War” Status

The military leadership, headed by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, provided the Prime Minister with a situational map of the 53 border locations where Afghan forces launched unprovoked attacks.

  • The “Zero Tolerance” Directive: PM Shehbaz issued an uncompromising directive to the armed forces to adopt a “zero-tolerance” policy against the “nexus between the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP).”
  • Defense of Sovereignty: “The actions of the Afghan Taliban regime against Pakistan are unacceptable,” the PM stated, adding that Pakistan possesses the professional capability to crush any aggression.

Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq: The Toll So Far

During the briefing, the Prime Minister was updated on the devastating impact of Pakistan’s retaliatory airstrikes and ground maneuvers:

  • Enemy Casualties: 274–297 Taliban combatants eliminated; over 400 injured.
  • Posts Seized: Pakistan has captured 18 strategic Afghan posts and destroyed 89 others.
  • Armor Destruction: Over 115–135 tanks, artillery pieces, and APCs belonging to the Taliban have been reduced to rubble.
  • Deep Strikes: The PM lauded the PAF for its precision strikes in 22 locations, including military headquarters in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia, while ensuring no civilian collateral damage.

National Unity & Regional Stakes

The Prime Minister emphasized that the “entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder” with the soldiers on the frontlines.

  • The Martyr’s Price: PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the 12 soldiers who embraced martyrdom and the 27 injured during the initial defense of the border.
  • Regional Context: The visit follows a flurry of international reactions. While the UN, Iran, and China have called for a ceasefire, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif clarified that Pakistan’s “patience has run out,” officially declaring the situation an “Open War.”

Anti-Drone Success

The PM was also briefed on the successful interception of “rudimentary” Afghan drones that attempted to target Abbottabad, Swabi, and Nowshera. Pakistan’s advanced anti-drone systems neutralized all threats without any loss of life or property
