AJK voter base expands by over 580,000 since 2021 elections

MUZAFFARABAD — The registered voter population in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has increased by over half a million individuals over the past five years. According to the latest electoral rolls released by the region’s Election Commission ahead of the upcoming legislative assembly elections, the total electorate across all 45 constituencies has reached 3,804,385. This marks a net increase of 583,839 voters compared to the 3,220,546 individuals registered during the 2021 polls.

Meanwhile, the remaining 12 constituencies situated across Pakistan—which are legally reserved for refugees from occupied Jammu and Kashmir—house 438,546 voters, compared to 403,456 in the previous elections.

Constituency Size and Extremes

The data highlights a wide variation in the size of electorates across individual regions. Among the 33 territorial seats inside AJK, LA-7 Bhimber-III is the largest with 129,994 registered voters. It is closely followed by LA-31 Muzaffarabad-V with 128,177 voters and LA-12 Kotli-V with 126,332 voters. Conversely, LA-30 Muzaffarabad-IV stands as the smallest territorial constituency, containing only 68,228 voters.

Territorial Density: Out of the 33 in-region seats, six possess electorates between 120,000 and 130,000, while only one falls entirely below the 70,000 threshold.

Jammu Refugee Extremes: LA-37 Jammu-IV holds the highest density at 111,203 voters, whereas LA-39 Jammu-VI holds the lowest at 37,639.

Kashmir Valley Refugee Extremes: LA-45 Valley-VI is the most populated refugee seat with 7,681 voters, while LA-43 Valley-IV is the smallest with 3,346 voters.
